Greiterhof lies at the entrance to the Ulten Valley. Lana, Merano, the irrigation-channel paths and the surrounding mountains are all within easy reach. Quiet days at the farm can be combined with outings at different altitudes.



Hiking
Around Lana there are gentle walks, irrigation-channel paths and more demanding mountain routes. Some start near the farm; others are reached by bus, cable car or car.

Maps and walking guides are available to borrow at the farm. We can also share practical advice on routes, weather and places to stop.

Aichberg Trail at the entrance to the famous Ulten Valley
The cultural and nature trail passes by Greiterhof. The path is equipped with information boards about history, plant life, animals, geology, fruit growing and viticulture. It is a historic path that connects mountain and valley.
The starting point for the hike is Greiterhof or Raffeingasse towards the Marlinger Waalweg. The route leads through chestnut groves, vineyards and orchards. It climbs up to the Ausserhof inn and then descends again past the St. Magnus chapel in Gagers back to Lana.

Vigiljoch for leisure hikers
Take the cable car, 10 minutes on foot from Greiterhof, up to Vigiljoch. Via the Philosophy Trail you reach the Schwarze Lacke area and continue towards the small St. Vigilius church. Turning right, the path leads to the Baerenbadalm. The return route leads back to the cable car.

Chestnut Trail in Vollan
Take bus no. 14 to Vollan. The Chestnut Trail begins at the bus stop there. From there you walk through the forest to the Mairhof, continue towards St. Pankraz and later descend to the Rafflerhof inn, then continue towards Lana.

Brandis Waalweg in Lana
The Brandis Waalweg branches off Gampenstrasse in Oberlana and leads via Lanegg convent and St Margaret’s Church to the waterfall in the Brandis gorge in Niederlana. The path runs through orchards, vineyards and chestnut groves, with views of the Tschögglberg, Lana and the Merano basin.

Marlinger Waalweg
Take bus no. 211 to Rennweg in the centre of Merano, then change to bus no. 13 to Toell. Walk along the Algund Waalweg, then along the Tappeinerweg to the Powder Tower, down into the Gilf gorge and back via the Kurpromenade to Theaterplatz.

Cycling
The local cycle network includes routes along the Adige, mountain roads and forest tracks. Depending on the route, it suits touring bikes, e-bikes or mountain bikes.

Routes run through orchards and woods, beside the river and over mountain passes. They can be ridden independently or as part of a guided tour.
Guided bike tours: The Lana and surroundings tourist association offers various weekly bike tours at different altitudes and difficulty levels. We are happy to provide more information on request.
Bike rental in Lana: In Lana there are various bike rental stations where you can rent mountain bikes, city bikes or e-bikes.

Vigiljoch Loop
Mountain station of the Vigiljoch cable car. Climb on the broad forest road below the chairlift to the right. Pass the St. Vigilius church on the left and continue to Gasthaus Seespitz. Keep right there and return along the panoramic path to the cable car mountain station. From there continue via Pawigl to the Greitwies snack station and then back towards Lana.

Passer River Route
From Merano, the cycle path follows Jaufenstrasse towards the Passeier Valley. You cross the Gilf gorge on a small wooden bridge and turn right onto the Passerdammweg, which leads on a gravel path with hardly any incline to St. Leonhard.

Cycle Path Along the Adige
The mostly paved cycle path along the Adige leads from Reschen Pass through the Vinschgau Valley to Merano, Bolzano and onwards towards Lake Garda.

Family hike on the Felt Art Trail
The international Felt Art Trail is a loop walk of about one hour with artworks made from felted sheep’s wool along the route.
From the centre of Tisens, the path leads towards Prissian and on to Hotel Burggräfler. There the signposted loop trail over the Vorbichl begins. Along the path, artworks made of felted sheep’s wool can be seen. The connection of felt, nature and art makes the route especially enjoyable for families.
Playgrounds Nearby
There are several playgrounds in Lana and the surrounding area. South Tyrol’s largest playground is in Gargazon, only 10 minutes by car from Greiterhof.
The Public Swimming Pool in Lana
The Lido Lana is only 10 minutes by car from Greiterhof and provides refreshing relief on hot summer days. The outdoor pool complex offers several pools and a large lawn for relaxation and refreshment for young and old.
Merano 2000 Summer Toboggan Run
Merano 2000 has a 1.1-kilometre rail toboggan run during the summer season. The hiking area is about 30 minutes by car from Lana.
Relaxation
The sauna area at Greiterhof has a Finnish sauna, bio sauna, experience shower and relaxation room. It can be reserved privately for our guests by arrangement.


The garden among the vines has loungers and quiet places to sit. The terrace looks across the Merano region towards the Passeier Valley and Bolzano.

The sauna area is reserved for one apartment at a time. The Finnish sauna, experience shower and relaxation room remain private during the agreed session.
The garden
The garden lies between vineyards and orchards. Its lawn, loungers and small seating areas are available to all guests.
Swimming and thermal baths

Therme Meran
Therme Meran has been open in the town centre since 2005. It has 15 indoor and outdoor pools throughout the year, with more outdoor pools during the warmer months.
Swimming Lakes Nearby
The Montiggl Lakes and Lake Kaltern offer outdoor swimming during the warmer months. Lake Kaltern is about 30 minutes from the farm by car.
Natural Bathing Pond in Gargazon
The public natural swimming pond in Gargazon is about 10 minutes from Greiterhof by car. Its water landscape is designed naturally and uses no chemical additives for water treatment.
Public Swimming Pool in Lana - Lido Lana
The Lido Lana is only 10 minutes by car from Greiterhof and provides refreshing relief on hot summer days. The outdoor pool complex offers several pools and a large lawn for relaxation and refreshment for young and old.
